Monthly Favorites: January 2016

january monthly favorites spread

January has come and gone. Seems like it was just New Year’s wasn’t it? New Year, New Me – is that still going on?

A lot of things happened this past month, some I’m proud of and some I’ve learned from.

  • I celebrated my first real month of blogging
  • I achieved the personal goals set for the blog for January
  • I connected with bloggers from around the world – follow me on twitter
  • I learned a vast amount of knowledge about photography and editing

Let’s see what products really stood out the most this month!

monthly favorites for january

Ciate Mini Paint Pots –

I’ve been collecting these little babies for about two years now. This formula is amazing, but I just can never commit to a full size of any nail polish. These are more than just a trial size! I have yet to run out polish in any one of these miniatures. As with any nail polish line some shades are better than other but, for the most part, these polishes are creamy and apply smoothly. They also have glitter polishes, loose glitters, and caviar beads. There are so many options to choose from without feeling like you have to commit to a full sized bottle.

Sonia Kashuk Brush Set –

I have a slight addiction to Sonia Kashuk brushes. By slight I mean I still have two unopened sets waiting to be used in my beauty stash, Every time I pass by her section in Target I can’t seem to help myself.  Her brushes are amazing quality and the price is very reasonable. I read on Sonia’s AMA on Reddit that she chose Target as the home for her collection because she is able to bring the utmost quality while maintaining an affordable price point. She also said the exact same product she’s selling at Target would be 3x more expensive at Sephora or Ulta. That should show just how conscious she is of her customer base and how great her products are. The brush set shown is a six piece, LE set. The theme of this set is “The ABC’s: Accentuating, Blending, and Contouring. They are so bright and fun, each brush with it’s own shape and purpose. I frequently pull out the larger blue brush to help create a SHARP contour and the smaller blue brush to contour the nose. Both brushes feature flat, angled bristles. Most of her brush set are Limited Edition and they sell out fast so I highly recommend grabbing them if you see them.

Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette –

I’ve had this palette for a bit and it’s a staple in my collection. Honestly, I would recommend most of the Vice palettes because they have a great combination of neutrals, brights, shimmers, and matte colors. This Vice 3 particularly has something for EVERYONE. There’s taupey matte nudes, oceanic blue-greens, sunset bronzes, sassy  purples, and smokey neutrals. This palette was LE at Sephora, Ulta, and UD but I recently (like Saturday) saw it on display at Nordstrom Rack. Yet another reason why you should check out my Beauty Blogging on a Budget post and find out just why I love Nordstrom Rack for beauty products. There is a Vice 4 Palette out now and it’s on sale at Urban Decay!

Face Paint by Lisa Eldridge –

I’m over the moon about this book. I’ll go ahead and admit now…I’m a huge nerd. I love learning, researching, and analyzing just about everything. This book gives me life! Lisa delves into the history of makeup and cosmetics. Gorgeous historic images, cosmetic advertisements, and modern photography jump off of every page. I so deeply enjoy learning the origin of certain trends and it’s amazing seeing how the products and ingredients changed over time in the beauty industry. If you love makeup and you want to know more of the history (and the future) of makeup, this book is a great read. And, it makes a stunning coffee table book!

What products made your favorites list this month? February is tad shorter but that doesn’t mean we should let it slip by. We’re officially a month into 2016 and I fully plan on making this my year!

Yay congrats! I’m a new blogger too so I love reading about others who are new 🙂
Urban Decay & Naked are on my list of things to buy. It’s good to hear that the matte is good from various people. 🙂 It makes me feel good about going for it.

I have all of the Vice palettes except the original because I knew nothing about makeup back then and I agree with you – the Vice 3 is so universal and has a great mix of shades. The UD shadows blend beautifully, have great pigmentation and are just of great quality! It’s such a good palette.
